Join us at the beach for a beach cleanup day!
We are partnering with Turtle Island Restoration Network to teach our kids about taking care of our beaches and oceans! This field trip is following the science lesson on pollution at Agape Co'op, and will help teach our kids the importance of being good stewards to the earth.
TIRN will give a quick presentation on marine debris, plastic pollution, and sea turtles. Then we will walk the beaches to collect trash. After trash collection we will discuss and weigh all of the trash, conduct a Nurdle Patrol and do a microplastics experiment!
Once we are done with the beach cleanup (around noon), we will play at the beach! Play in the sand and waves and bring a packed lunch!
From TIRN: We ask participants to wear garden gloves, use a bucket to use to collect trash and bring hand sanitizer for the end. Please try and avoid single-use plastic/latex gloves and single-use plastic trash bags, this avoids adding additional plastics to the landfill. If needed, we can provide gloves and buckets.
All participants need to sign our online liability waiver (prior to the cleanup. For the last question asking what event are you participating in, please respond with "Beach Cleanup- Agape".
We encourage all participants to report the type of trash removed from the beach on the Marine Debris Tracker App. Please download this to your smartphone ahead of time. You will be logging the type of trash as you go. This app is really great as it logs the GPS location of each item picked up as well.
